Majocchi polyester-cotton high tension gabardine panelled with raw organic cotton open cell mesh.
Fancy Mesh Pocket idea inspired by an East German cellular cotton resort shirt vintage find.
Mesh panels expose the construction of the garment and any garments worn (or not) underneath.
Signature overlap back seam construction is adapted from bib overalls design and the cuffs of Lee chore coats.
Shaped and faced cuffs and hems, concealed front placket inspired by formal Italian tailored outerwear.
Garment dye fully dyes the cotton mesh panels and sewing threads, but only dyes the cotton fibre within the intimately blended gabardine- polyester fibres remain olive green, giving the fabric a special mottled appearance similar to a covert cloth or marl jersey.
Buttons are made from cellulose acetate derived from recycled cigarette butts.

Sage smudge

Beach tar

For Book 01, we have made extensive use of garment dyeing processes, as found extensively in both Williams’ work on Tender and various Massimo Osti related productions, as worked on by Robert. For us, garment dyeing is the ‘birth’ of the garment - sinking thread into cloth, beginning to soften and agitate the fabric, and bringing all the separate components and materials together in a shared dye bath. It is this process of alchemy which gives the garment its character.

SAGE SMUDGE
Soft green-grey from the dried leaves of the sage plant, used in European witchcraft and superstition to clean a house of bad spirits and create good energy. A bundle of dried sage leaves is called a ‘smudge’- ‘smudging’ is lighting the bundle and waving it arrive a room, sometimes chanting a spell or incantation.

BEACH TAR
A purplish-black colour inspired by the lumps of sand and tar found on beaches caused by oil spills out at sea.
